League Rules

Official Playing Rules

Triple Double Basketball has adopted the National Federation of State High School Association Basketball Rules Book for league play. The Rule’s Committee and Triple Double Basketball have approved these additional rules.

Section 1 – Official Rule Book

The Minnesota State High School Rule Book shall be the official rules for all Triple Double games. The approved Triple Double rules will also be additional rules for all Triple Double games.

1.1   Safety First – The referees may blow the whistle and stop the game to investigate the condition of a player who might be hurt, at any time, and resume play as soon as reasonable. The safety and well being of our players is always our main concern.

1.2    Forfeit Due to Time – Each team must have at least four players to began and finish the game. If any team has less then four players ten minutes after the scheduled game time, the game will be a forfeit.

1.3    Coaches and Players Sit Rule – All coaches and players shall remain seated on their team bench during the contest. The team captain is responsible for all proper conduct from the bench and team spectators. If at any time, any player or coach not checked into the game is standing inside the court boundaries, that team will be subject to a technical bench foul.

Section 2 – Length of Playing Periods

Games will be 20-minute halves. Each half will be a running-clock, only stopping on:

1)     Timeouts
2)     Referee stops the clock

The exception to this is the last two (2) minutes of game. In these two (2) minutes, the clock stops whenever the ball is declared dead. If one team is winning by fifteen or more points within the last two minutes, the clock remains running.

2.1     Half-Time -There will be a three (3) minute half time in each game. The time is to be kept by the scorekeeper.

2.2     Overtime Period -Overtime period will be two (2) minutes stop time. Additional overtime will be two (2) minutes per period.

Section 3 – Timeouts

Each team is allowed three (3) timeouts per game. In case of overtime, each team will receive one time-out. Timeouts from regulation will not carry over into overtime. All timeouts are 45 seconds in length.

Section 4 – Player Participation

4.1   Truancy - If a player misses three (3) consecutive games without notifying their respective captain, their roster spot will become vacant. If another player fills the vacant position, the truant player will no longer be eligible to play in a Triple Double game. To fill the vacant position the new player must pay the full Triple Double fees despite the progress of the season.   There will be NO REFUND or any kind to the truant player.

4.2   Truancy Overturn – A player whose roster spot has been vacated and filled and that feels that their league removal is unfair has the right to a formal review with all league captains.

Section 5 – Player Eligibility

5.1     Payment Received In Full – To be an eligible player, the person must be paid in full prior to the start of their first game. NO EXCEPTIONS.

5.2     Uniform Violations – Each player must wear the jersey designated for their respective team to be eligible to play. NO SUBSTITUTES will be allowed. Any violation of this rule will result in ineligibility.

5.2.a    Approved Jersey

            Jersey with approved number

            Matching colored team shorts

All undershirts must be the same color of the jersey.

5.2.b    No Earrings - Earrings are accepted under no circumstance. All players will be required to take out their earring(s). Covering them with tape is NOT a sufficient substitute.

5.3       Checking In - Each player must check in at the score table and wait to be called in by a referee. Failure to do so before entering a game will result in a team technical foul for having too many players on the court.

5.4       Age Eligibility – All players must be within the age limit of 18 to 29 years old.

Section 6 – Jump Balls

Triple double does not instate a possession arrow. Instead we will use NBA rules for jump ball situations.

Section 7 - Violations, Penalties, and Fouls

7.1    Technical Fouls – A technical foul will be called for any unsportsmanlike behavior, as determined by the referee. Unsportsmanlike behavior includes, but is not limited to, cursing, excessively hard fouls, and taunting. If a player receives a second technical foul, the player will be escorted out of the building and suspended for the following game. Technical fouls will result in two (2) foul shots and the ball for the opposing team.

7.1.a     Ejection by Technical Foul – If a player is ejected from a game by technical foul or for any other reason they will receive a one game suspension effective for his team’s following game. This is NOT subject to formal appeal.

7.1.b     Multiple Technical Fouls in a Season – A player will receive a one-game suspension upon receiving his fourth (4) technical foul in a season; then again at technical No. 6, 8, 9 and every technical after that.

7.2        Foul Outs – After six fouls, a player will be ‘fouled out’ and ineligible for the remainder of the game.

7.3        Conduct Reviews – It is possible for a player to act in an unsportsmanlike manner and not be penalized by the referee. If this happens, captains have the right to review the actions and reprimand the player in according fashion.

7.4        Suspensions – A player’s suspension can only be served if the player is in street clothes and attending the game.
